Midwest Coastal Nodes Project

The Coastal Nodes is a $2.5 million dollar project initiated by a priority from the Mid West Tourism Strategy and project managed by Nicole Nelson, Manager Community Capacity, Shire of Irwin.

The Coastal Nodes project involves four local governments in two development boundaries working together to provide short stay campsites at the following places:

The local governments which share the region’s boundaries, have worked together to refresh the camping and campground infrastructure, with support from the Mid West Development Commission, Tourism Western Australia and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

The project was extended to include not only refreshing the sites, facilities and planting native species of vegetation, but also included the rehabilitation of old access tracks, and entry points off the main road to open up the Mid West coast and increase access.

The Coastal Nodes project is expected to attract an additional 4,700 people annually bringing an additional $585,000 into the region.
