Staying overnight in the great outdoors is a tradition for many Australians and the Shire of Irwin has many options to suit all needs.
Free camping right on the beach, nature based camping is allowed for up to 72 hours at Cliff Head, Knobby Head or Fresh Water Point, south of Port Denison off the Indian Ocean Drive for all campers. You can camp for up to 3 nights in any period of 28 consecutive days in this location (not 3 days at each).
There are basic toilet facilities at each location. Please support local businesses in Dongara and Port Denison by purchasing your supplies there.
Self Contained RVs and Caravans can also stay at Seven Mile Beach north of Dongara for up to 3 nights in any period of 28 consecutive days.
A Self contained vehicle must carry its own fresh water, have waste (grey) water holding tank capacity, have a portable toilet cassette, all waste must be retained within the confines of the vehicle and nothing released to the ground.
RV Friendly The twin towns of Dongara- Port Denison are RV Friendly Self Contained Vehicles (see definition above) can stay overnight at the Town Oval off Waldeck Street. There is a Dump Point one site and camping is to the east side of the oval adjacent to the Brand Highway. Mobile power generators external to the vehicle should only be used up to two hours and not operating after 10pm; externally strung washing lines are not permitted. Please complete the surveys located at the Waste Dump Point shelter or available to download here.
Waste Dump Point is provided with a hand washing basinat the Town Oval, entry is off Waldeck Street and is one way.
Overflow During periods when all accommodation providers are full such as the Easter long weekend the Town Oval is opened up to accommodate campers at a cost of $30 per vehicle. The toilets and showers are opened at the Cricket Pavilion and the Rangers will collect the fee each day. The fee applies to all campers including the self contained vehicles. Water is available to fill up tanks for a few 20c coins on Point Leander Drive in Port Denison near the Recreation Boat Ramp.
Public Toilets are provided in Dongara, Port Denison, Knobby Head, Cliff Head and Big Fresh Water Point.
Long Vehicle Parking is available at the Town Oval on Walton Street under the trees. This is a short walk to the Visitor Centre and Main Street where you will find the Post Office, Chemist, newsagency, supermarket and much more.
Rubbish bins are provided at each location and throughout the towns, so too are doggie bags please leave no trace and take only memories with you.
Support local we ask that you support local businesses and purchase your supplies from businesses in Dongara and Port Denison to ensure these facilities are provided.

Permanent closure of the Cliff Head North campsite entrance.
As part of the Coastal Nodes Project at Cliff Head, the access road from Indian Ocean Drive to Cliff Head North campsite will be closed permanently and rehabilitated.
Closure of this road was a directive from the Main Roads WA due to the dangerous positioning of the access road. All access to Cliff Head campsites, including North and South Cliff Head will be from a single signed entrance on Indian Ocean Drive.
